I RMA'ed a 8k7s5a board to newegg and they offered me a replacement board:

I can take that or $40 refund. I am going to be buying a board anyways of equivalent specs and perhaps I could negotiate them to give me another board in that price range but I have never heard of Syntax and I was wondering about their reputation.

Can anyone provide me with their experiences or stories regarding this company? Thanks.

Syntax is an offshoot of ECS. Syntax took over part of the ECS "photon" series. You'll notice they have a 865 PE motherboard with the same shiny silver heatsink and comes with the same back/green colored cables the ecs had. I would probably pass it up and get your money back and get this one (add $10.00). This paticular model does not overclcok well (becuse of no voltage control) but is very fast and reliable, and only $50.00. Biostar M7NCD nforce2 400

Or this one (since you are going cheap)

Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus

If you really nwated to go ultra cheap I guess the motherboard listed might work out. You never know, as alot of people liked the ECS 746 board. Just don't expect to really run your mem ever at PC3200 speeds reliably. Fo that the SIS 748 would be much better. I would spend $10.00 more and get a proven mainboard. See if they will give you an M7NCD ....

I used one of their MB's in the past and it worked fine while I had it.

I am avoiding ECS for now though. I had some pretty bad luck with them recently. I actually bought the top link to replace the one I RMA'ed. Thanks for the info that they are related to ECS. I guess I will try to get a rep on the phone and see how far they will go to keep me happy.

That would be the best thing to do. With ECS or syntax you might get a good board, and it might run well, but I would 'try' to get a more proven board with a tad more 'oomph' if I could. See if they will go for that m7ncd. If not the syntax might be fine. Probaby alot like the ECS746. I hear the SIS 748 is not bad at all. AsRock makes one that alot of people are happy with, and PC Chips has one with a 3 year warranty that is much better made than any previous veriion of board they have had called the W-30. It has the better capacitors (believe it or not), raid, Giga ethernet - all for about $60.00.

I spoke with a newegg rep (got a supervisor without asking for one because the guy handling my RMA was overburdened). I complained that I only had the board four months and had paid extra for the extended warranty. The guy said that the warranty isn't an extra year but a 2 year warranty replacing blah blah. He was a nice guy though and said he'd refund it since it was relatively low amount and customer satisfaction was worth more than it. While on hold, I ordered a refurb M7NCD Ultra for $50 that popped up. I figure I will swap it out with my M7NCD vanilla I have now, OC, and pass that on to my mom with RAM + CPU/HSF for an upgrade kit in her computer.

Thanks for the advice!
