Note that this is an expansion unit for a Synology NAS, it is not a standalone NAS. Use this to add more drives to your existing Synology box. Reports are that it works with the DS212+ (I have not tried it, so I can not confirm). The Synology product page lists compatible products, and DS212+ is listed (standalone volume only) but the DS212j is not (no eSata connector).
