Synology DS211J or StorCenter ix2-200?

Hello. I need an NAS for my documents and currently have 3 computers that can sometimes work on one file. For the moment, one of my computers is on 24/7 serving the document I need to work on. I want to shut it off and move my files to a NAS, preferably with RAID 1 capability. These 2 devices (ix2-200 & Synology) are intriguing, but the difference is $100 between them. My needs are basic. I have no need for Torrent clients, Samba, iTunes, DLNA or the like. What I need is reliability. My network is 10/100 only, but since I only need access to docs, its not a big deal. The ix2-200 2TB (2x1TB Drives included) costs me $209 and the Synology costs $209 without drives. The ix2 has pretty good reviews besides the noise issue (I don't care about that) but all else is good. The Synology also gets good reviews. Now should I still shell out the extra $100 for the Synology or would the ix2 suffice? I'll probably mod the ix2 with a fan if I get it since the included fan is set to spin up at 60C only (very uncomfortable for me at that temp) and is pretty crap. Thanks for your help.

Got Synology. Started setup and it just shut down. Now it wont turn on at all. I looked at the Power supply and the green light is off. If I disconnect then reconnect the power cable, the light turn on for 1 second then goes off. Had to call Amazon for a replacement.

Just curious how that Synology is running. I bought one and will set it up this weekend.

does the synology have the drobo/qnap type drivers where they ignore all errors? ie you can use AV,RE4,Consumer drives all together? thats the main thing i like about my qnap nobody wants the AV drives since they have TLER=0s

No idea. What I do know is that it was not easy for me to set up (no surprise since it's my first external backup device) and that the included Data Replicator software is CRAP. Absolutely pathetically lacking in features.

So I am now using... SyncToy 2.1. Yes, it's very basic, but it gets the job done without so much insanity and system hogging.

I'm having issues with it messing my file permissions (it keeps making stuff read-only, I checked their forums and this is a valid complaint that hasn't been resolved in weeks), this sucks. Haven't used the data replicator software (no need), I only need to store and host files for 3-4 computers to work on. I think I may have to return this and get something else. What do you guys think?
