I recently set up a Synolgy NAS to serve three computers... two with Win 7 64 bit and one with Vista 32 bit
Initially I had trouble negotiating and maintaining logon to the NAS until I read on the synolgy forum to do the following:
From the command prompt in windows run the "set' command. This will show the logon name which was as I expected..John. It then said to make a new user for the NAS and give it the the same name (John) and the same password used to logon to windows. This way, the NAS will pick up the credentials from windows loggon, which will match the synology. At first I thought all was well.
I was still running into goofy problems when more than one computer was turned on........until it dawned on me that all three computers were set up with the same loggon name (John), thereby creating conflicts on the NAS when "John" would try to log on from more than one computer at a time.
So, I figured that all I needed to do was change the logon name in windows 7 (via the control panel) from John to something different, like John1 and then create a matching name in the NAS
But after doing this, although it changes the appearance at windows loggon from John to John1, it always retains the original name (John) given to the account (as viewed in the set command)
So. is there a way to "actually" change the user name?
I thought about just creating a second user name and use that..but then I have the hassle of moving my settings, data etc. from one account to another.
Suggestions?
Thanks much!
