Anyone know of an alternative program for Synergy? It is a program that lets you have multiple machines setup but only one keyboard/mouse and you can control the other with same set. So the local is a server and the monitor-only machines connect to the server. When mouse hits edges of screen it just ends up on the remote machine, but you can see it on the physical monitor.
Problem with Synergy is that it needs to be the same version across all machines for it to work, which is impossible if you install from the repository as each OS will have it's own version. I've been trying to compile it manually so I can get the same version on all systems, but it has a ridiculous amount of dependencies and I have been unsuccessful at installing it. i don't get why such a (should be) simple program has so many dependencies to begin with.
So I'm looking for an alternative program that will do the same thing.
Been fighting with trying to get a proper multi monitor setup going where I can gain control over where programs launch as the whole multi monitor scene is TERRIBLE in that there is no control over where apps open and it's the wild west where you get dialogs flying all over the place, in some cases even elements like menus from the GUI of an existing program ending up 3 monitors down etc, it's terrible. By using 3 separate PCs with 1 monitor I can eliminate this completely as the applications won't even know the other monitors exist given they are on another PC. Centre PC as primary than two raspberry PI's for the sides. I had this setup working with a version of Synergy that was easier to install but it crashes all the time, and the latest one has too many dependencies and I just can't et it to install on any of the systems.
Failing that I will look into what it would take to write my own. Probably easier than being molested through the bowels of dependency hell.
