Syndicate is the re-imagination of a cult classic franchise from 1993 - a unique action shooter set in a not too distant future, where Business is War.

Take on the role of Miles Kilo, Eurocorp's latest prototype agent, and embark on a brutal action adventure of corruption and revenge.
• Chip Enhanced Gameplay: Slow down time, see through walls, and breach your enemy and everything digital in the world with Dart vision – A neural DART6 chip implant that allows you to interface directly with the Dataverse.
• 4-Player Online Co-op: Assemble your Syndicate for global domination. A 4-player, online co-op experience like no other, with chip enhanced gameplay and 9 missions re-imagined from the original Syndicate.
• Visceral FPS Experience: Utilize an upgradable arsenal of futuristic weapons, armor and gear to annihilate your enemies and harvest their chip technology for personal advancement and sinister corporate greed.
• Sci-Fi Fiction: Immerse yourself in the world of Syndicate 2069, with a world-class sci-fi story experience, written by bestselling author Richard Morgan.

Designers talk about new game: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09/13/agents-of-change-starbreeze-talk-syndicate/

Game director Neil McEwan: “We’re big fans of the original Syndicate” ... “we’re definitely paying as much homage to it as we can – bringing across the essence of the world, the core essence of what it is to be an Agent. That sounds wanky but it’s true – we’re taking the Persuadatron and evolving it in different ways, the weapons and brutality.”

Designer Rickard Johansson: “I don’t want people to stop playing the old games, but time has moved on.”

So they take a game that has a lot of fans, change it around so it'll alienate all those fans to appeal to a broader audience that has no attachment to the name... why not just make the game with it's own name? At least it sounds like it has more to do with syndicate, than the x-com game has to do with x-com.

Okay, I'll admit it could still be good if they maintain the between mission aspects of managing your syndicate for new techs you research and what you deploy on your "troops," and have techs to discover during the missions to reverse engineer and deploy. I doubt we should be so lucky though.

That seems to be the trend nowadays. Take a forgotten franchise that has a good fanbase and make a new version of the game in a new genre for people that never heard of the originals.

Ya they didn't have to call it Syndicate. Corporate Cyborg Attack would have sufficed.

Me too, I've been waiting for a long time for a remake of Syndicate. It is one of my all time favorite games, right up there with Planescape: Torment. I would have been happy with just a graphic remake of the game (and expansions) that would run nice on Win7.

I hope they at least look carefully at the original game and find some innovative things to do with with it.

I'm not too pissed off, I honestly never thought I'd see a syndicate remake. So, will wait and see what they do with it.

Anyone remember the sounds from the original Syndicate?

I can remember the game, setting up the players bionics (?), and so on, but what I remember most are the voices, which were very hard to understand, and the reason when I see my friend Jason we once in a while revert to saying "Rickrorney" and "Zeraclip".

The new game looks nothing like the old, and is a different genre. I'm expecting a console-ized title along the lines of Prey.

Got excited to use the Gauss Gun again!!!!!!

Read "Take on the role of Miles Kilo, Eurocorp's latest prototype agent, and embark on a brutal action adventure of corruption and revenge....I don’t want people to stop playing the old games, but time has moved on."

and left disappointed.

Could still be a good game, not that we really need yet another scifi shooter particularly badly. That said it certainly is NOT a reboot of syndicate because it isn't the same genre of game.

We all know the real reason they won't do a real remake in the same genre: Strategy mouse controlled games don't work on consoles

The original Syndicate is one of my favorite games of all time. I hope there's some link to the original.

Yup, it's all in the title :D

God I hope they don't bring back Theme Hospital, Power Monger and Populous under these conditions :(

Theme Hospital as an FPS? Hmm, they would probably say you are a doctor that retired from the military and went into the private sector in some hospital and a outbreak of some disease is happening and all the patients are turning into zombies and you most kill them all to stop the spread of the disease to save your girlfriend who also works in the hospital.

The old Syndicate Wars CD should be laying around in some closet at home. I still remember this game (actually, developing a free clone crossed my mind a couple of times) and I really hate that they have to kill the original spirit. Like Kaotik says, seems to be the trend.

LOL

Actually that could be kinda cool, you could be a retired doctor from the military hell bent on creating chaos on the way to saving your maligned and infected girlfriend! On your way to getting even you'll explore the world infecting innocents with bile overload, puffy head syndrome, iPoditius, cranky head disease and the like. As you earn new unlocks you'll be able to upgrade your weapons to unleash new genetically mutated sicknesses.

In multilayer mode the other team will have to research ways to fight your outbreaks and treat new patients in your hospital in a fight of good vrs evil!

You forgot the part where said girlfriend is completely useless eye candy with big boobs that every zombie seems to salivate over as she runs away leading you to fight off an array of even more evolved and dangerous zombies.

That goes without saying cause that is all any women seems to be good for in a game nowadays.

I don't understand why it would need to be a FPS. RTS games still do well, and Syndicate was a RTS game. Why would they need to completely change the genre in the "remake"?

Which is completely ridiculous considering the PC gaming market is way bigger now than it was in 1993.

Feels like they completely lost the feel of Syndicate to me. No corporate jargon or buzzword speak. In Syndicate you are not 'eliminating aggressive assailants' you are to 'neutralize competing corporate assets'.

Agents are not people. Agents have no will of their own. They are expensive, but replaceable, equipment that are remote controlled by an executive. If an agent dies you buy (or collect) another, and pay for new upgrades and equipment to outfit him. You are not fighting for survival. You are fighting for market share.

This is part of what made Syndicate special. It was a world where corporations have completely dehumanized all but their highest level executives. Everyone else, including your customers, are considered assets that are to be bought, sold, stolen, or if no longer useful to your corporate goals, eliminated.
