Syncing iOS synching between laptop/desktop?

Alright here is the situation. I have an iPhone, iPad, MBP, and iMac. I normally use iMac as home base for syncing my iOS devices. But sometimes I'm out an about when an update comes in and it would be nice to just use my laptop, but that means that the backup will be on my laptop and not my desktop so I need to remember which one has the most recent backup if I need to restore it.

Is there a better way to handle this so no matter where I plug in an iOS device I'll be sure to get the most recent copy?
