Syncing a POP email account with my iPhone

hey all,

I have sort of a weird issue that I feel pretty stupid for not being able to solve. My GF has a webmail account for an employer of hers that uses POP. I have set it up on her phone, and it can pull the messages off the server fine, but every message shows up as unread, whether she read it on her laptop via the webmail interface or not.

Basically, it is syncing the messages, but not the 'state' of the messages. Also, if she deletes something on her phone, it doesn't delete it off of the server, and vice versa. Is this sort of stuff only possible through IMAP?

thanks!

POP simply downloads a copy to every device connected, it does not sync states or folders. For that you need IMAP or Exchange.

The usual setup with clients is the normal computer is setup for POP, client leaves mail on server for 2wks (user preference), and then the mobile access, phone, etc is left on IMAP. Therefore they can read up to 2wks of email.

If only using webmail for work I'd set it up for IMAP.
