Synchronising FSB and RAM?

My current settings in the BIOS for my Athlon 1600 XP are 133 FSB and a multiplier of 10.5 and FSB/RAM ratio is at 4:5 to get my PC2700 RAM running at 333Mhz. Would it be better to synchronise things and have the FSB at 166 and lowering the multiplier to about 8,5 (if that option exists)?

Yes, higher fsb will increase performance more than anything else!
What kind of motherboard? Does it have a 5/1 divider to keep the pci at 33MHz?

I have a Msi 745 Ultra motherboard, I don´t know if it has that. But increasing the FSB and lowering the multiplier in accordance won´t increase heat will it? Can I do this with the stock cooling that I have?

Yes it will increase heat. You may need better cooling. Just watch the temps. If you get over 65c under load you need better cooling (some people are going to say that's already way too high).
If you need a new heat sink I would recommend the slk-800 at SVC.com with a case fan like the YS Tech variable speed fan.
In bios check to see what it sets the pci frequency at when you raise the fsb. Don't go over 40MHz on the pci.

Where in the bios can I see the PCI frequency, I can't seem to find it? Would it be alright to just try and set the FSB to 166Mhz and multiplier to 8,5 and boot to windows and see what happens? Would I be risking anything?

sometimes when you go to change the cpu frequency, theres another # beside it which denotes the pci frequency

at defautl voltage it probably wont post if you do that

have you unlocked the cpu inthe first place?

without that, you cant adjust mults on your cpu

if it doesnt work, make sure you know how to reset the cmos/bios

You need to unlock to lower the multiplier? I didn't know that, heh. I'll be getting a new CPU soon anyway so I guess won't go into this now. Thanks for the help though, guys 😉

well for any palomino, they are hardlocked at their default mult

only tbred's have been unlocked....the lower ones have the lower mults unlocked, and higher ones have higher mults unlocked
some boards unlock all mults however without any mods
