Synching iPod with new itunes library

Okay so I have an iPod loaded with about 300 songs. It's been dependent on a stupid HP computer which was recently replaced by a brand new tweaked Dell on vista.


Now, my problem: When I try to sync my ipod with the new itunes library (it is a new computer after all) it says it will erase my Ipod's contents and replace it with the 10 lousy songs that are currently in the library.


WTF?!


All I want to do is transport all my songs from my iPod to the new itunes library, and vice-versa.

yes, they do this so you cant "share" your songs with friends simply by hooking up an ipod.

you can browse the ipod like you would any storage device.. the songs are stored in a hidden folder.. but they will be renamed weird ... you have to import those into the "new" library

Ephpod used to do the trick. Not sure if it still works.

You should try some article sites like helium or other. I have read a lot of stuff about iPods there.

If you hold down shift while launching iTunes, you can select which library you want to use. I believe you can choose an option for New Library. What I usually do is just hold down shift while I am connecting my iPod to the USB cable (mine would automatically use my wife's library, which I DO NOT WANT ) .

Once you get into iTunes, you can choose "Consolidate Library" from one of the menus - I believe it is the Help menu actually - and what this does is copy all of the music from your iPod into the iTunes library.

Hope this helps or at least gives you some options. I have never tried the "consolidate" option but I believe that is what it does, in a nutshell.

edit: oh and there is also an option available for Manual sync on the iPod. if you launch iTunes without an iPod connected, I believe you can still access that option...
