Sync Laptop (Vista) to Desktop (XP)

Ok, my dad usually works on his laptop. He wants to have his laptop sync and updated, so that it is a mirror of his desktop. How can I set this up for him? I want to make it automated (if possible) and make it easy; My dad isn't tech savy, but knows how to use for Word, e-mail, internet, etc... Also, I hope it can be updated wirelessly.

His laptop is a Vista Premium and his desktop is a Windows XP Home Edition.

Vista can't be a mirror of XP - they are too different. However, I have a Vista laptop and aXP desktop. I only need to synch specific files, and I do that easily by copying them over a LAN connection - or I use my "sneakernet" - i.e., a flash memory module that acts as a go between.

If you put them on a wireless network, you don't need to do much synching. You can access Word docs from either machine with either machine if you set up sharing and access rights to do that.

To try and automate this between the two OS's is a path to trouble.

Nice call! That opens up a whole new ballgame - online storage of data so that your computers act as work stations all accessing the same files. That service has a cost attached, and only works online. There are others that can do the same thing. Here's a variant that also can do that:

I want to make it easier for my dad. He probably can't remember how to access the files online. I guess I can sync certain folders, but what program can do that? I want to be able to sync as much as possible.
