sync issue with Dell Axim x50v and ActiveSync 4.5/Exchange

Have a client who got a new computer. When I reinstalled ActiveSync 4.5 for his Dell Axim x50V the Axim keeps trying to sync 2500+ items for his calendar through Exchange server. He is using Office 2007 and I have tried to "combine", and to set the pda as the primary device to copy data from. I have also deleted all of his calendar in outlook and have the device sync its data to the server/outlook. Each time the device reports either an out of space message, or it tries to sync 2500+ entries.
