Came across this surfing on slashdot this morning. Synapse.

It's an MP3 player with some _really_ cool new playlist-type features. First, it has the best media library system I've ever seen. You give it a list of directories to search, then it automatically chooses the most appropriate artist/title combination out of the filename, idv1 and idv2 tags.Next, it's standard playlist has a "postpone" feature. Cool song come on your multi-thousand entry playlist but you don't want to hear it just yet? Postpone will move it back an entry. It also has a "playmap" in addition to the standard playlist. Think of a playlist where each song could randomly branch to one of 2 or 3 other songs. But it's coolest feature is undoubtedly the "brain". It's an algorithm that watches what songs you play, how often you play them, and in what order you play them. Then when it has enough data you can activate it and it will play random songs, but instead of just using a random number generator, it uses the information it collected about your playing habits to choose songs. I think winamp has finally been dethroned (on my system, anyways).

Do you know if it loads large playlists.... say.... 25,000 songs without crashing? Winamp 2.x and 3.x do not:(

I use Winamp 2.8 and if I drag my MP3 directory in there (around 25k songs) it doesn't have a problem, but it changes so often I've never bothered making an actual playlist file. It's also loading off of a RAID-5 array and not a single drive, maybe it's a timeout thing.

Not sure about the exact numbers involved, there's not a count feature, but I've loaded my entire mp3 collection (~30GB) into both it's library and it's playlist and it's handled it fine. I don't see why it wouldn't handle something even a couple order of magnitudes larger than mine without a problem

It isn't a time out thing... the directories are loaded from 2 7200rpm 8mb cache drives.... but the CPU usage go through the roof (Intel 1.8A) and the ram usage on winamp goes crazy. It used to work in some version of 2.6 or something... maybe I need to find the old download links on their website.
