what are some common symptoms one might experience with a chipped die (other than not POSTing at all)?

I recently replaced the aging thermal pad with arctic silver 3 and i think i chipped off a microscopic part of the corner of the die. (Thermoengine heatsink...bad mistake). I looked at it under a magnifying glass and i see a small part missing from the corner. After i put everything back together, the machine seems really flaky. It's been freezing up a LOT, when before it froze up maybe once every 4 months (with 24 hour up time). It seems logical that this would be caused from the chipped die, but are there any other symptoms? (btw, since i put on the AS, temp has dropped 18 degrees celcius to 37C @ medium load)

I doubt the scratches had any effect on the actual die - i mean if you think about it, the CPU is what, 0.18 micron? And a scratch is much bigger than that.. so any visible scratch should absolutey KILL the cpu. So i think its another problem entirely..

from my own experience I've found that the cpu will either work or not.
if it did work then I've not noticed any other side effects like what you're seeing.
