I have been using Sympatico as my high speed DSL for over a year and a half.
It's been great with them. Until last week, I wasn't able to connect to my internet
any more. Reason is because of where I live is about 7 kms away from their service
station so that's why I am not receiving any signal. The only thing I can do now
is either change to their regular dial up service or hook up with Rogers cable for the high
speed service. Isn't this odd?
After a year and a half of the great service all of a sudden tell me that
where I live is too far away from them so that's why I am not getting any signal anymore.
Well, this morning have just cancelled the internet service with Sympatico.
It is sad that I have to change my ISP cuz it's so inconveience that I have to tell
everyone that to delete my email address and also many of the resumes that I have sent out
were with my sympatico.ca account..so this is what I am by FUNNY : *(.
:)

Sounds like crap service to me. Did you move further away? Did they tear down a base station?
Then why wouldn't it work now if it's the same distance away?

Call them and bitch to their customer service for a few hours. It should be their responsibility to make sure you have a signal. Don't know if it'll do any good, but at least you can let off some steam...

I recently left sympatico too, but it was for other reasons. Retarded customer service, and their new bandwidth cap of 5gb up and 5gb down, and then frickin $8.95 for every extra gig. Went with a local DSL place with no caps in place (yet anyway). Not like it matters much to me anyway since I'm at school on the T3 but for the people at home it sucked cause they all like to get music.

I'm on Smypatico right now and its pretty decent. I don't do much dnloading anymore so I doubt I'd go over the 5GB cap. I had Rogers before and that was TOTAL crap!

Anyway, Kami what DSL provider do you use now? I dind't know they had alternate DSL providers..

Canadian ISP might be of some help in locating alternative providers for your area. Just choose your province and location. You might also find some more information at RBUA. (Check the forums).

I'm currently with Rogers and haven't had any trouble with downtime this year (there were some problems last year during the network upgrades). Rogers is however introducing bandwidth caps (3 mbps to 1.5 mbps) and I think 5 GB monthly downloads for their regular service.

What was wrong with Rogers before when you used it? I am curious cause I have been thinking about switching over since my roommate can get it for $20 per month since he works for Rogers. We have Vibe DSL from Aliant now and it's been pretty decent for uptime as well as good speeds. We don't have a cap here yet, and since I've had the service for a long while, I'm not on PPPOE either.

Roger's service sucked. Now it depends on your area, but every tom dick and harry had rogers in my area and surrounding areas. Hence, it was clogged. I would get better speeds on dial-up!! But Bell DSL is sweetness, only problem is its upload speed is capped to 16k/s and the 5gb limit.
