Symantec Endpoint Error 1402 - ( Solution Found )

Its created a registry key with no permissions no matter what I do I cant change the permissions

Error 1402 could not open key hkey_local_machine\software\symantic\symantec entpoint protection\SMC


Any ideas this is one win 7 standard it happens on every computer we install it on

For anyone with the same issue!!!

How to Delete The registry key


get PsTools

http://pstools.en.softonic.com/download

Unpack file psexec.exe and place it in C: \Windows\System32

next run cmd.exe with administrative privileges (right click on it as admin if you use UAC) and in cmd.exe type:

cd C: \Windows\System32

psexec -s -i -d regedit.exe


-this command allow you run regedit.exe from a system account (not from your account) so remember if you want remove any key the owner of this key should be SYSTEM now and full control for him for this key also.


Then delete the Symantec registry key

Then Install symantec again and it should work!
