they are both good. ive used symantec for years and its been good to me. just uses a little too much resources and its kind of slow to scan. also, it doesnt have hourly updates...aol is actually a rebadged kaspersky antivirus, so it'll be really good. and its free too. i also dont know if aol has firewall capabilities unlike symantec client security.

i personally use nod32, and its really good. im sure the gui will throw off some people, but i think its fine.

AOL Virus Scanner

Only cause I like free things (instead of paying to keep it going)

Heh, you asked the same question back in January. Are you still having trouble deciding what to do? :p

If you have access to Symantec 10.1 then by all means use it.

I found AOL's Anti-Virus to be great -- but good lord it was an absolute resource hog on my desktop PC. I had to remove it the other night because whenever it was doing a scan it would render the PC unusable to the point where I couldn't even surf the web. Granted this is only a 1.53GHz/512MB machine, but still -- I had to put AVG back on.

AOL is better, but it has less features and not configuration friendly. Symantec uses less resources at the extremes, but sometimes acts strange by not giving you all the virus and file information on detected viruses.

With Symantec, you need to set the Heuristics to the highest level, it doesn't slow it down to much but helps pick up more viruses.

With AVS, Do Not activate the high protection option as that can kill the system when it scans, but in Medium, make sure you set it to SCAN ALL FILES.

Do you have Symantec for free? If you have to pay for it, you might as well get the real Kaspersky. It is better, more configurable then AVS as it is the full blown version and it may be more stable as well.
