Nice.
Just on a related note, for anybody looking to throw a ton of bargain bin refurb Hitachis into a case for a server RAID-5 array, I've used the 3ware AMCC 9650SE-12ML RAID SAS SATA PCI-E Controller Card, purchased off of fleabay for $25 (you have to get the Mini-SAS to 4xSATA breakout cables separately), and they've worked great on two Linux Mint servers I've built out (no additional drivers, just remember you have to build the RAID device in the BIOS - hitting ALT-3 on boot). I was worried the card might require some work, but it was basically plug-and-play with current Linux builds. The RAID-5 prep took a 7~9 hours, but once done, Linux saw it as one big drive. There are tools you can load to watch drive health and such over a web UI.
My main concerns were the case (first one was built with a full Fractal Design Define R4, so no issue there - next one was trickier) and having enough SATA power connections (solvable with Molex-to-SATA adapters readily available).
These won't be SATA3, but having 8 drives in a hardware array makes up for the speed, IMO.
