I have a SY-KT333 Dragon Lite motherboard which supports 266MHZ FSB. According to the Soyo web site, it can support XP/Thoroughbred up to 2600+. I am wondering if I put the XP/Barton on this board, what will happen. Is Barton backward compatible with Thoroughbred? Can Barton work with chipset which supports 266MHz FSB only? Thanks for your help.

I'm fairly certain your mobo supports a 333MHz (166) FSB and should support Barton. Get an unlocked mobile Barton and use whatever settings you want and are supported by the board.

Get a mobile barton 2400 from newegg (about $78 shipped). I just ordered one, and hope it runs at 333-400 overclocked. It will post as "unknown cpu" on your board, but should run fine if you manually adjust the settings.

Thanks for the input. I manage to get a Barton 2500+, rather than a mobile Barton, to put it on my SY-KT333 Dragon Lite. As Soyo's web site suggests, it doesn't work. I guess the main problem is the BIOS. It can only allow me to set FSB to 100 or 133. When I set FSB to 133 and multiplier to 11, it can boot up (of course at wrong speed.) If I manually overclock FSB to 166 (which is the normal FSB for Barton 2500+), it will crash immediately after posted. No matter how I change the BIOS setup, I can't make it works.

I guess it's time to upgrade my mobo.
