SY-K7VDragonPlus//VideoCard Problems?

:|
Bought this board on 12/03/01 from a website in Maryland. Seen quite a bit of excellent reviesw on it and decided to build my first computer. Everything went well (Computer booted up!!), but a couple days later I startded to have problems with video in the form of, shadow coloring around icons, bleeding icons, streaking colors, dialog boxes that when clicked out would leave patches of colors behind, etc, most of those problems were with the yellow color scheme, others blue. Consulted a friendly tech, he said that looks like a problem or conflict with the NVidia chip and the Via KT266A chipset on the board or maybe a bad AGP slot. I have contacted Soyo 3 times to no avail, have emailed and tried to contact the place I bought this motherboard from, got the standard reply to d/l newer drivers, still have same problem. This is my system: Athlon XP1800+, K7VDragonPlus+ mobo, 512MB-DDR, VisionTek GeForce2MX400/64MB-DDR, Creative Audigy MP3+, using in-board NIC (cable), Zoom V.92 56K modem (not used), Enermax 330W PS, all in a Antec case SX1030B, also 56X-CDRom, 16X DVD, Plextor 12x10x32, 100 Zip, 1.44FD, (3) HD's Maxtor's 40GB at 7200RPM on ATA100 (not Raid). Any guess's, ideas, solutions out there?
Thanks for the help, guys.
A real fustraded old guy here!!

The "^" is a bump. I am curious about the answer also. It just saves time when you are interested in a thread but if you don't have an answer to that person's question to bump it to the top of the list so maybe someone else can see it. I just received the Dragon + but havn't installed it yet so I am watching for any compatibility issues that I might come across 🙂

hmmm new driver and still the same prob.....if you can slap in another video card and see if you get the same problem. Sorry probably not the nswer you wanted to hear.

😕Not exactly, thanks. I have tried the Visiontek as posted, I have also tried at the advice of others, an ATI Radeon 7200 w/32mb sdram, a cheap eTNT2M64 w/32mb sdram, a Hercules Prophet II 4500 w/the KYRO chip and 64mb sdram and still nothing works, the only card that I have not tested it with , is one of the GeForce 3's, my pockets are empty of cash right now and the local CompUsa store, does not want to sell me anymore cards, just to bring them back a day later!!!! I have call different tech's and they don't know what the problem could be, I thought maybe posting here, somebody would have run across it or a similar kind and report back, all the reviewers right good stuff about it, but they offer no advice. All I have right now, is a working 'puter with a lot of strange color effects in it. Hope somebody out there will offer some insight in what could be the cause of it.

Thanks in advance for any help,

You need to flash the bios with an update, or what I would try first is to go to SOYO's web site and get the VIA 4 in 1 drivers. This updates the drivers for the agp slot.

Later

😕I know I have the latest Bios drivers and d/l some Via stuff, I will have to check with my friend and see if one of the was the 4 in 1.

Thanks

Just a hint, but with the number of pieces in your computer drawing power (8 devices and motherboard and fans!) i HIGHLY suggest you upgrade to at least
a 400Watt or 500Watt power supply. Most of us aren't running that many devices and we still use high quality power supplies. Just my 2 cents. 🙂

😕Thanks for the "HINT", I'm waiting for a 450W PS, (Enermax) I should get it this week. As you know, I can't run all the devices at the same time, but you are right, it's still drwaing juice.

😀
I sent the board out and got it back yesterday (NEW ONE)!, it seems that the AGP slot and something else was bad on this particular mobo, they did not tell me what else was wrong! I loaded Win98se for now, all cards, all devices as originally setup, it works well as expected with the new mobo, no problems. Thanks to those who tried to help.
