However I want to defuse the confusion
Her daughter Jully had an account with verizon on the PC. She KT has a mac and she took over the ccount and changed the password and user, using her Mac. Jully returned this summer home for a vacation and could not log in using the password and user ID ther mom KT is using on her mac. Last week she KT the Mom wanted to use Yahoo Messenger to chat with a mic. The POC can do it the mac hes no Mic feature in the chats available to her.
I tried Verizon tried and earth link tried to get her online with her PC via dialup. Here are the instructions I gave her:
Here is a step by step breakdown to get online with verizon and chat to me with the microphone plugged into the PC dound card microphone slot, after you inatall yahoo messenger while online.
1. open outlook express
2. select tools
3. select accounts
4. select the Mail tab
5. click on properties
6. using the general tab
7. enter "K" on the top line without quotes, so you know it is your account.
8. enter kt ot k or Kathy on the next line so the people you write to will see it is from your name
9. under organization you can enetr your company name if you wish or leave it blank
10. enter
rtu@gte.net
11. under reply address enter either the yahoo e-mail or the
rtu@gte.net depending if you wish to give your real email to whom you write or not.
12. press server tab and enter as follows:
a. my incoming server is a pop3 account
b.Incoming mail pop3 is incoming.verizon.net
c.Outgoing mail (SMTP) is outgoing.verizon.net
d. account name is VZ/rtu ( note VZ is in capitals and rtu is in lower case.)
e. enter rtu pasword
f.Chek the box that says "remember password"
g. leave blank the "logon using secure password"
h. check the box that says "my server requires othentication"
i. Click ok and close outlook express
13. Go to start button and select settings then select "network dialup connection
14. double click the verizon online Icon
15. enter VZ/rtu
16. enter password
17. enter their telephone number to dial and connect to them
18. another time I will send you how to connect to news groups.
19. go to
www.yahoo.com download and install yahoo messenger
20. log on with the user and password you now use at yahoo. and then when logged in
21. double click my name in the friends list and type away to me
This did not work nor did what earthlink or what Verizon tech support tried.
They say she has a hardware problem, but the computer works fine offline.
Error 87 The parameter is incorrect.
An internal error occurred.
Make sure you typed your password correctly, and also make sure that you
typed alphabetical characters in the correct uppercase or lowercase format.
Restart your computer to make sure that all recent configuration changes
have taken effect.
If the error perists cousult Windows 2000 event log for detailed
warnings or errors.
A possible cause of this error is that the connection was rejected
because the remote computer exceeded its client license limit. Ask your
system administrator to buy more client licenses or point you to a
different remote computer.
With the Verizon tech, I made sure the password was correct and
restarted my computer. That is when he said it was not the fault of
Verizon. and to see a computer tech for configuration problem
