I have been a Time Warner Road Runner customer for over three years. I got home to find an offer from Earthlink to switch to their cable internet service for two free months and a monthly fee of $41.95. I called and spoke to one of their representatives and got more details: 8 e-mail addresses, 10 mb of webspace per e-mail address, same network as Time Warner's, web based e-mail access, unlimited dial-up.

I will save $3 a month until Earthlink adjusts their prices and the two free months will save me over $90 so I told the guy to sign me up.

It will be a few days before Time Warner should contact me for the switch. In the meantime, I was hoping someone here has experience with Earthlink's cable internet service.

Is there any reason not to switch to Earthlink? Thanks.

I've been using Earthlink Cable through TW for the past two months now. I came from Verizon DSL. While the speeds are definitely improved (351Kbps DSL vs. 1.1Mbps Cable), I've noticed that the cable connection would go down often. DSL was rock stable, but slow. I too am paying $41.95 a month vs $49.95 for DSL so I'm saving money and it's faster.
I also need to point out that there was a lot of construction going on near my neighborhood so the cable access might have been interrupted at some point due to that. Recently it's been fine and I've enjoyed fast throughput.
Configuration: Coax cable -> Motorola 4100(might be 4200, not sure) Cable modem -> SMC Barricade 4 port router -> three PC's running DHCP. I live in Durham, NC.
