switching stands for Samsung 226BW

I am interested in buying the Samsung 226BW LCD, but I do not like the fact that the stand it comes with does not swivel or rotate (or so I have been told). I am planning on using this LCD partly as an external monitor for a tablet PC, so I need the ability to rotate the monitor freely and quickly between landscape and portrait orientation to match whatever I'm doing on the tablet. Can I simply buy another stand for the monitor that has this swivel/rotation ability?

You could get a monitor arm to do that yes.

However, i am going to go ahead & strongly recommend you not get a TN panel for your applications.

Portrait mode on TNs requires you tolerate horrible viewing angles side to side (or what is top to bottom when in landscape).

Basically, it's very hard to use, since your eyes will see two different qualities of picture.

I don't know how to explain what i mean very well, but i suggest going into a store & checking out how that LCD looks when it's in portrait mode.
Then compare it to any PVA/IPS-based in portrait mode, & you'll understand why i cannot recommend a TN for portrait mode use whatsoever.

I have the samsung 226BW and while it does not come with a rotate feature, it has a swivel function built into the base. My complaint is that it doesn't allow height adjustment - On a TN, it would seem that vertical viewing angle is key.

If I decided to keep the monitor in the landscape mode all the time, is there any drawback to a TN panel?

Also, why do 22" LCDs seem to be so much cheaper compared to many 21" and 23+" LCDs? Is it that most 22" are based on TN? Is TN an inferior technology?

all 22" panel use TN panels.

TN aren't necessarily bad unless you are a serious graphics designer/artist. They tend to not produce 8-bit colors just like their other counterparts.
