Switching phone companies

I want to move from Verizon to AT&T. I have been a customer with Verizon for 4 years and plan on moving to AT&T next month when my Verizon contract expires. Has anyone had an experience with the same companies? I'm not looking for a "who's better than who" debate, just want to know what trouble I should expect.

No experience with the same companies, but generally they go without a hitch.

I'm planning on doing this to when the iPhone comes out. Is it easy?

I've heard both cases from locals. Either it went easy with a 2 hour down time or it took 3 weeks and several phone calls to get things switched.
