If it's a free trade and you want to try it, go for it. You won't notice an earth shattering difference though.

yea as it has support for games that will come later like pixel shader 3.0 and wutnot

You might want to find out why the other guy wants to. Otherwise you have nothing to lose unless you know of specific problems with a game you play. In general they both perfrom relatively close, but the 6800GT pulls ahead in opengl. The 6800 also has better Linux support.

When AA and AF are applied, the X800 Pro comes out on top.

P.S.: I'm not looking at VGA Charts IV. I'm looking at two other notable sources. Once 3dc enable games start coming out or patches with 3dc are applied, you'll notice a difference with the X800 Pro. I'd keep mine.
