last time i switched mobos I had to reinstall win2k because the boot.ini got screwed over. Will i have to do same for this switch over? Meaning if i install the new mobo will win2k get over it without a hiccup?? Or wil i have to reintall? Btw ive heard about hardware compatiblilty prob with amd? wat should i watch for?
EDIT
also should i buy a new ps? or is 250w enough?

Before switching MBs, it's best to remove all device drivers in control panel, then let the OS find and reinstall them in the new MB.

Thanks for the advice obtenton..could that have been why my win2k installation was screwed last time I switched mobos??
Also about the ps?? should I fork over the extra ?? bucks and get a 300W ps?
thanks

BACKUP FIRST!! 😉

obenton is right...restart in safe mode and delete all your devices/ controllers and anything to do with the BX chipset, shutdown, install board, reboot 5 times 🙂

Your P.S. may be fine, try it first and see.

Don't even need to restart, much less into safe mode. Simply delete everything in your system properties before doing anything. Then shut down the computer.

I would go 300+ watts for the power supply if you're buying an Athlon - also, make sure it is Athlon Approved.

If you remove everything before changing, you shouldn't have any problems. I'm pretty sure that's why you had problems before. When I put my Quantum LM into my Cyrix, I forgot to delete everything from system properties, and when I put it in the new computer Windows 95 had a hard time properly detecting all the VA-503+'s stuff, so I just deleted everything there, installed some patches, and I was good to go (but now I'm screwed with the P83).

Restarting in safe mode is sometimes the only way to see duplicate devices in Device Manager.
I have had many systems come in with up to 8 duplicate entries in safe mode D.M.
