Switching motherboards with RAID Hard Drives

I have a friend using an Abit KT7-Raid motherboard with 2 45 Gig IBM HD's set up in a RAID configuration. He is trying to switch to a P4 setup but doesn't want to lose the 60 Gigs of data stored on HD's. Is there a way to somehow save setup a new RAID configuartion (ie: using say a Promise ATA 100 Controller card) without losing the 60 Gigs of data. This seems very unlikely, especially since the Abit uses the Highpoint controller and backing up 60 gigs onto CD's would not be a very nice option.

P.S. If he was using say a Promise Raid Controller card from the beginning, would it then be possible to transfer the setup to a new motherboard? Also, if this can't be done, how are all the people running a RAID config with their KT7-Raid motherboards going to be able to upgrade at a later date?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dunno if change a HPT with a Promise will work, but if you use a promise card, can change all the mobo you want.
Also, he can use a different disk to save the data.
