I've been working help desk support since i graduated college ~3 years ago and now want to switch jobs and move somewhere near or in NYC. Thing is I'm pretty sure I could get another help desk job just like mine with similar pay.. but I'd like to move into sys administration or something a little higher at least.
Should I get MSCE, MCSITP etc? I hear lots of pros and cons about them.
My current job is good for my age (50k, vacation, easy hours, pretty guaranteed) but STAGNANT. I could work here till I'm 40 and not have gained tooo much knowledge. They send me out for training once in a while but its just for backups... antivirus etc. I should say I am actually learning a decent amount about AD and Virtualization but wouldnt have any real tasks or certs to put on my resume...
I could even go into project management... the school I work for offers MSM and
PMP but I'm not sure what kind of paths they open.
Should I just go on career builder and try to land a jr sys admin job??
