I currently have an X1900XT but I've got an 8800 GTS in the mail that should arrive tommorrow. I've never switched GPU's from a different company before, so do I have to anything special with drivers? Just uninstall Catalyst and then install the nVidia drivers?

Thanks.

You'll need to run DriverCleaner before you install your new card.

edit: is drivercleaner not free anymore?

edit2: Older (FREE!) version of driver cleaner :)

How do I download it? There's nothing at that link besides a blank page....

Here

Also, do the bullets towards the bottom of this page.

Except were it says to install the 97.02 driver, install this one.

You gonna do this:
-Download and install DCP (Driver Cleaner Pro)
-Uninstall current drivers normal way (in device manager)
-Reboot into SAFE MODE
-Do the bullets on the bottom of the xbit page
-Run DCP
-Reboot (into normal windows)
-Install drivers (linked above)
-Reboot
-Download and install Rivatuner and nHancer
-Use Rivatuner to overclock and to look at temps
-Use nHancer to do all the stuff with the profiles and change the driver settings for games.

Pretty much only use the new nvidia CP to change stuff with the monitor, or the video/television thing. Thats all I'd ever use the new CP for.

Do I really need to do what it says on the X-Bit page? It sounds to me like that would apply to people who had previous versions of Forceware installed. I've never had anything but Catalyst installed on my PC.

Do it anyway.

Trust me. It's better to just do it then to run into trouble with it later on.

They say that the cost of developing driver cleaner has gone up recently, so they gotta charge some amount for it :(
