Switching From NVIDIA to ATI.... Instability?

I've switched graphics cards, from a Geforce 2 pro 64mb to a ATI 9600pro 128 mb. What ive read on several websites is that you can never COMPLETELY remove a graphics driver unless you can fetch certain software which nukes the old driver. Not removing completely removing the driver of a rival graphics card company can also cause instability. I've found a nuke for the Detonator Drivers, but nothing for the new Forceware driver which still has fingerprints on my computer. I can?t reformat again way to many files to move around.

Vic, simply clean the system youself

Uninstall driver, then:
Start up "regedit" from Stat/run and search for 'nvidia' and associated terms, to find (and then delete) keys.

Unless, of course, you are using an nForce-based motherboard, in which case the above suggestion will most likely wreck your system!

Driver Cleaner is your best option, remember to run if you`re using 2K XP, driver cab cleaner as well, just follow the readme file instructions that come with Driver Cleaner.

The driver cleaner worked... I'm scared to death of messing with the registry. Maybe because I dont understand it. I do need to start learning how to mess with it though. Thanks for the driver .

LOL - yeah I should have noted that - was purly talking from personal experience there of course - and obviously I dont have an nForce mobo 😀 Sorry !

I always just uninstall drivers, and then install new video card and drivers

yet to have an issue with anything, doing it that way.

i just went from Ti4200 to Radeon9700 pro. Just uninstalled nvidia drivers and I was set.

Thats going to cause instability: crashes, slower performance, ect. Best thing to do is reformat, if thats not possible then do the driver cleaner thing it works great.

I'm going to eventualy build a rig to keep all my STORED files so i can just format my gamming pc whenever i feel like it.

Can you say 'enclosures' or 'external HDD'?
Yeah, I've been finding those pretty damn handy these days myself. 🙂
