Switching from dreamhost

Well my year of hosting with dreamhost for ten bucks is almost over and I'm thinking about switching to another company. The only problem is I like dreamhost abut not paying $119 a year. I don't come anywhere near the space or bandwidth limits of my account but the control panel is nice and I love that I can host multiple domains on the same account. Does anyone know if there are there any other reliable cheaper sites that allow hosting multiple domains on the same account?

I'd also like a replacement... I tried GoDaddy's hosting after my previous company had issues charging my card for no reason. GoDaddy has a horrid control panel that gives control over about 5 settings.

One other question: How well dreamhost handle heavy traffic? I've never gotten close to pushing it with my site and I've heard some talk they they aren't that great when the site is hit hard.

Unless you have reason to think your site will get hit hard, don't worry about it. If you do have reason to think it will get hit hard then serve static content for that duration. If you want a host that can get hit hard with dynamic content, you won't get it for 10 dollars a year, so if you have a problem with paying $120 a year don't even consider the option of such a reliable service.

I'm not expecting quality from a 10/yr server I just need something cheap for my own website. But I also host a couple of sites for friends and I was just curious if anyone knew how well dreamhost performed under a load. I don't mind paying 120 bucks if in the event that I do eventully have a site people want to visit the server doesn't explode.

BudgetReseller looks pretty good, I'll check out that site and see what I can dig up. Thanks!

If setup properly, a website on Dreamhost can stand up to a Digg/Slashdotting with no problems. But a default install of something like Wordpress, which is database intensive, will have trouble under a heavy load. Databases are Dreamhost's achilles' heel.

I sent you a PM with a GREAT sales pitch. <- somewhat kidding, but I honestly don't think you would be dissapointed and i'll help you get things moved over if needed. 🙂

I've been using Made2Own.com for basic hosting. It's cheap, and works well for what I do. It's owned by a SomethingAwful forum member.

Every hosting site is owned by a member of some forum, that's not news, particularly when it's one of the biggest forums on the web 🙂
