Switching from a GF2 to a GF3--already running GF3 drivers...do I wipe and reload?

I didn't know whether this should go in GH or OT...I chose here. I'll be getting a GF3 come August. The heck w/waiting...that's all I do is wait for prices to come down. Oh well. Factoring in the price of the software that's included (none of which I have at the moment, but have been looking at buying at least one of the titles) the card itself winds up costing approximately $250. Not bad. That's what I paid for my GF2GTS (ok, stop laughing now)

Oh yeah, THE QUESTION! I'm already running the WHQL 12.41 drivers in my rig. These are GF3 drivers. When I put the card in, should I just install and be done w/it, or should I go ahead and set the card to "Standard VGA Card" and then reinstall the drivers? Good question, I think.

The nVidia drivers have thedrivers in them for all their cards, so you shouldn't have to wipe anything because yes, the driver in already installed. Windows will adjust accordingly when you put the new card in, and you should be good to go.

if you want to be safe, go to safe mode, uninstall it, reboot, safe mode, try to install it and what ever file name it throws at you as a driver, find it, delete it, repeat til it has no idea what card it is.

Yeah, I couldn't take it anymore. I've been playing UT a whole lot lately (I still suck) and I've been on boards with like 10 guys all jumping around at once. My FPS slow down to the mid-teens. Totally unacceptable. Some of the Q3A-type maps that I've DL'd only play in the 30's in single-player mode. Blah.

I'm gonna go with the Absolute Multimedia version of the GF3. Called the MORPHEUS. The bundle it w/four diff titles. You get to choose the fourth one from a list of about ten titles. Not bad. Unless, of course, someone else comes out with a better deal. I had my eyes on the Elsa, but then the Absolute came along.

I know that bundles don't impress you. Some other folks like to see 3D glasses and stuff like that. That stuff doesn't impress me. Eh, personal preference i guess. Have a good day.

You will be able to use your current drivers, I would suggest you use the 12.6 drivers however!
