Switching careers: I need a place that analyzes what you'd be good at...

Well the IT sector is still a bust. Time to change careers as I'll have a baby to feed in only 3 more months!

Is there some kind of website that tests your knowledge, personality and skills to see what you'd be good at? I need a nudge in the right direction.

Going to skool for another few years is not an option, I have to get into it pretty much right away. At least at some rudimentary level anyways.....

Get an apprentice position with a contractor. You make decent money right away, and should have your bennies (assuming its either Union or a rare non-union that has them) in 90 days.

Okay... but isn't there some kind of "test" that analyzes you and says stuff like,

"you'd make a great carpenter/bartender/brain surgeon/poopsmith/etc"...

There are tons of tests and evaluation procedures that could help you figure out what field to go into. Do you currently go to school? (college/university). If you do, there's certainly a "placement" or "career councelling" office that could give you all sorts of literature and other resources to help you figure out what your options might be. Still, it really boils down to what kind of stuff you personally are interested in. People tend to do well when they're working on something they are interested in.......

College was a few years ago... just in time for IT jobs to start magically disappearing. 🙂

Computers is out... don't think there's much need for orchestral music composers except for motion picture, where the competition makes IT look like a picnic. 🙂

Do NOT waste your money on one of those places. Gigantic rip offs. Worked for one for about a month but couldnt stomach the lies they wanted you to tell.

Have you looked into government jobs? My career center at school has several govt. listings, and usually if you are really nice to them they can help you out even though you are not a student anymore. All it takes is one name and phone number to get you in the door. Also, I am sure your city posts jobs in one of the buildings downtown, that might be a good resource.
