Im currently connected with Adelphia Power Link. Im paying a whopping 55$/month. I believe I can use my own cable modem and pay less (45/month). Adelphia provided me with a Motorola SB4100 modem.

I still have the cable modem that was given to me when I was connected to Mediaone. Is this a matter of switching the modems out? or is there more technicality to this? please let me know

Each modem has a 'MAC' number that is unique to each unit. This number must be registered by the ISP so it will be recognised and enabled.

Just call customer service and tell them you have your own modem. They will ask for the MAC and tell you the approximate time they will update their system.

Checking for compatibility before doing this would be good idea. Customer service should be able to tell you.
