switching boot drive controller on Win2003 svr

I tried adding a promise card to one of my test win2003 servers. I did the typical trick that works on win2k, and nt4 of physically installing the new controller, let the OS find the hardware and and deal w/ the drivers, shut it down, move the cable, and all is good. Well as soon as i move the cable to the promise card, and attempt to boot it, it works for about 15sec. during the boot process and chokes....I have no idea where it stops cuz i get no messge, i can't even tell where it leaves off.

any ideas/help?

Likely a stop 0x0000007B

temporarily undo your cable swap to get yourself booting. set your computer not to reboot after a crash to confirm.

If it's a 7B you can perform and inplace upgrade / repair to get out of it. Boot to your 2003 CD, provide the F6 driver. Press enter to setup then choose to repair one of the existing installs.

If you can get rid of any filesystem related filter drivers before you begin it would be a good idea. By this I mean uninstall antivirus and CD burning software.
