switching between LCD and CRT monitor

I recently purchased an LCD monitor and I love it except for it's performance in high speed games (ie. Battlefield Vietnam, Unreal Tournament 2004, etc...). It is only in these games in which I notice the "ghosting" effect. I might return the monitor, however, I do alot of text reading and word processing as well as gaming, and in regards to the first two functions, the LCD is heaven. I noticed that CRTs are relatively inexpensive (from what I've seen, I can get a descent 19" or 17" monitor for less than $200...maybe even $150). I am thinkning about buying one and just using it for gaming only, then using the LCD for everything else. My question is, is it possible to have the LCD plugged into the DVI output on my video card and have the CRT plugged into the Analog output and switch between the two at a whim? Can I do this, or can I only have one plugged in at a time?

Why don't you have both monitors plugged in and run dual screen? That's what I do . This way you get best of both worlds. Make the CRT primary and run your games on that. Make the LCD secondary and browse and do text work on it. You also get the added benefit of having twice the screen space to work as your desktop. It's extremely useful you have lot of windows open. I usually have on TV or movie on my primary CRT and surf on my LCD.

Yes they will work together, and since I have been using dual monitors it would be hard to go back to having just one. For future referance on LCD's, if you are going to be gaming on it, you want to look at the response time. 16ms or less response time seems to eliminate the ghosting problem.

very much so. most modern cards can do this, and even in the drivers have dua. monitor functions. even more can be downloaded from the companies sites, like hydra vision for ati and nview or whatever for nvidia. having two monitors= double desktop is nice. u can choose which is the primary/turn off one or whatever u want from display props generally

win XP supports multiple monitor setup. you cn either have a card with dual outputs or 2 video cards in your system (1 AGP+ 1 PCI or 2 PCIs).

I run both because I need the CRT for pictures as my LCD can't display the colors correctly.

hahahaah, me too. I have my dual monitor computer, my wifes computer and a tv mounted on the wall for both of us to view. I spend most of my time in my computer room, even if I am just watching tv. I HAVE THE FAT TO PROVE IT...

So do I. Unfortunatley, I have to play this horrible, horrible, MMOG called 'The Highway System' to get from my homr computer to my work computer. :(
