Lead Data has announced that in January all of its CD-R disc production lines will be switched over to 32x speed CD-R discs. The company is also planning to move up to 40x discs in the near future.
Lead Data began to ship 32x CD-R discs in October, but 24x discs have continued to be the biggest selling product this year.
The company said it has installed two DVD-R disc production lines, each costing at least NT$50 million. The company will improve production yield to increase capacity to 100,000 discs a month. Further expansion will be decided based on market demand.
The company?s board of directors will finalize plans for setting up operations in China before year-end. According to Chinese government regulations, Lead Data must make a joint investment with a mainland concern before it can establish operations there. However, the company has not ruled out acquiring a China-based company and developing products besides CD-R and DVD-R discs.
