I have an oppurtunity to uprade a small business that my wife works at. They presently have three PC's that are networked through a 4 port NetGear 10/100 hub with dialup internet access through each PC. I just ordered them three Dell OptiPlex GX150's replacements for their Acer PII-350's and plan to upgrade their network. I'm working up a proposal to network another upstairs workgroup that has three standalone PC's into the downstairs workgoup but I'm confused about the configuration.
I have a general working knowledge about networking from having a home network using three PC's and a Linksys 4 port Cable/Dsl Router. I know there's an uplink on the router that allows internal linking to another hub in the network. You have to give up port # 1 when using the uplink which is fine, but am to assume that your're limited to one hub only as an uplink or can you plug another hub into port # 2 and run 2 hubs into the router?
I would like to plug both the upstairs and downstairs hubs into one 8 port Linksys BEFSR81 Cables/Dsl Router and give them Dsl service. What do you think😕
