Switched to Win2k: I love and hate it!!!!

The switch from 98se was a gigantic one. Smooth ass multitasking and great stability. I love win2k's features. I hate the bitch it is to mix networks from 98se though. I also hate that win2k is a ram hog and needs 256 to be optimal, i only have 192. I also software compatibility. I also hate finding the right drivers too. So far everything is great, NO CRASHES!! YEAH!!! NO SHUTDOWN PROBS!!

I takes a few days to get all the drivers and
you may throw away some software. But it
is still quicker than waiting around for 98
to reboot after a crash.

You mean Windows 2000 actually knows how to use that RAM properly. 😛

Although I must admit it's still not as good as some Linux OSes as far as memory management goes. :Q:Q:Q I can't believe I said that!!!

W2K rocks... bite the bullet and get the extra RAM. You'll be happy you did.

W98 will seem soooooooooooo clumsy after you've used W2K for a few months 😀

RAM are so cheap these days getting 256MB+ shouldn't be hurting your wallet too much 😉 But I do think that 192MB for w2k should be fine since an untweaked installation would take around 80MB on bootup. That would leave you over 100MB for programs to play around with. Unless you are doing something memory intensive otherwise you won't notice too much of a difference. Having said that I will have to say that I did notice a difference moving from 128MB to 256MB.

Love w2k, well so did I.... until I went to XP that is.

Believe me, you don't know what you are missing.

Im planning to upgrade soon, from this poor old AMD 700. And I plan to double my memory (currently 256), and my processor, then goto a 10k RPM HD.

Man, XP flies with this current old machine, I won't be able to believe what it will do on the future machine!! 😎

XP is the business, Go do the Upgrade ASAP.

If you like Win2k, you will love WinXP.

I was using Win2k for just over a year and loved it compared to Win98SE. The only thing I did not like was occasional hardware and software incompatibilities. I recently installed WinXP RC2 and it is great. Same stability as 2k with far better hardware/software support.

XP seems to get a lot of bad press, but I think for the most part it is a bunch of BS. The only problem with XP will be price, all MS OSes are overpriced IMO.

Linux is also a great OS, I run SuSE 7.2 on our other machine. Linux is great for the price, but there is not near as much software available for Linux. Also I have had a few compatibility problems with multimedia rich websites causing Netscape to crash.
