Switched to Synthetic AND added BG44K

In my existing thread about the O2 sensor I noted that the car was running rough and that throttle response was sketchy at best.

Well, yesterday I added BG44K to the Fuel and then went to Wal-Mart for Oil. $22 for 5Q of Synthetic-- $16 for Conventional... There is no reason to NOT use synthetic.

Expecting a normal oil change I did the usual, PureONE filter, with 5Q of Oil.

Start up the car-- Boy does she like Synthetic. Car seems to idle smoother among other things. For diagnosis sake, that was stupid since now I don't know exactly what the problem was earlier. Should have done it separately.

I love being a man: Mowed a lawn, and changed oil in 2 cars 🙂

On a separate matter, after 146K miles, should I worry about my Fuel Injectors? I added BG because I noticed very slow throttle response. I plan on checking and cleaning the butterfly valve, but is there something else I should worry about??

Since you add what I assume is fuel injector cleaner and changed the oil at the same time, any difference you feel is due to the oil change or placebo effect. It takes a while for that injector cleaner to get through the system.

I agree about synthetic but what brand are you using that is so cheap?

mobil 1 isn't much more at walmart and the big warehouse stores.

Yup that is what I am using. I'm sure it is a marketing gimmick but I am using the Truck and SUV version also-- same price.

Mobil1 is also cheaper by the big 5 quart jug, than by buying it 5 separate quarts. Think the last time I bought one it was closer to $18, but it's been a while. 🙂

I usually buy a 4QT jug from Autozone with Mobil1 fully synthetic for about $24, so $22 is a good deal for 5QT

Should I check anything other than the butterfly valve (I'll check PCV Valve as well) to address poor throttle response (Air filter and MAFS are both fine)? Also as for rough idling-- is there anything I can check there that might contribute to it?

i dunno about $16 for regular oil.. i get mines at wal-mart for sub $10. I think supertech 5 gal is $7.88 and mobil5k is $8.9x for 5gal. that and a supertech filter for about 3$, my oil change gets done at sub $15 if i wanted to included a new plug gasket and a drink/beer.

My wife and 5 and 7 year olds do that stuff

I spent the day WRENCHING on two standups that I acquired that need a lot of TLC. Set up the kids swimming pool, weeded the garden, fixed my string trimmer, put a new idler pulley on the truck (ok, thats weak), and took a monster crap.

Sunday I spent a couple hours at the lake.

🙂 🙂 🙂

Haha just because women and kids can do some of the stuff doesn't negate manliness 😉

I think the day that I really liked more than this was when I got to go out and by a brand new shiny reciprocating saw and blades, tear down a playground fort (hired of course), and then paint the finished basement.

Gotta love being a guy 🙂

What kind of car is this?

I thought it was a bad idea to switch from dino to synthetic at high mileage because you're just asking for oil leaks to pop up...

So does anyone know for sure if switching from dino to syn on high mileage vehicles is a bad idea? I have always wondered, I have 200k on my Chevy PU, runs great, maybe I should just stick with dino.

I do believe in the BG44K products though, not snake oil, as many of these additives can be.

Despite the fact that it is going OT, I love where this thread is going haha.

They say that there are 2 times during the day where men actually think and mull things over. The two places are:
1. On the toilet
2. In the shower

I switched my 99 Wrangler at 102k miles to Amsoil and it's running great.

Might want to reconsider Amsoil. It's not ACEA certified. They say it costs too much, etc, etc... But a mod on Jeepforum knows someone whose engine died, and his warranty was voided by not using certified oil. Amsoil left him high and dry.

The fact that Amsoil is sold through a pyramid scheme should be enough to make you suspicious. Yeah everyone on the internet loves it, but is that fanboyism due to quality, or to the pyramid?
