Switch with integrated firewall?

Hello,

I have installed Sygate Personal Firewall not long ago and because the viruses/worms threats are getting more dangerous, I just can't dump it away. But, I have problems with it (and I am not the only one). Instead of looking for another firewall SW, I was thinking about a switch that had a firewall.

I am using a DLink DSS-5+ (the old, brown model) and it works perfectly. I like it because each computer has it's own IP. As Sympatico allows an account to have 4 or 5 IPs connected at the same time and because some games requires a different IP to play in the same game, I am looking for a switch that has an integrated Firewall.

I don't want a router that will connect to the net and get the IP for itself. I want each computer to use it's own PPPoE connection program and then have it's own IP.

If I was not clear enough, please tell me.

Thank you

Try a Cisco Pix 501. It is primarily a firewall but it has a built in 5 port 10/100 switch. Excellent soho solution.

Majesty, the Linksys BEFVP41 and probably other models have an advanced option to select between "Router" mode and "Gateway" mode - the latter enables PAT, while the former acts as a real static router and would suit your needs. Try reading up to see if the trusty BEFSR41 supports this, if not, the BEFVP41 and maybe BEFSX41 does.
