Switch to quadcore, lose auths?

Hi,

Just a general question: I have a number of legitimately-purchased software installations on my dual-core XP Pro PC (Native Instruments, Cakewalk, etc.).

My understanding is that a lot of serial keys and installations are tied to hardware ID these days, one way or another.

How much of a headache am I going to have if I try to upgrade from a dual-core to a quad-core CPU (P5B mobo)?

Feels like it's not worth the bother at this point.

All you're switching is the CPU?

Shouldn't be a problem whatsoever unless they've tied the license to the CPU, which i've never seen for any program

Ok thanks, good to hear -- I had some amusing experiences when I was first installing XP on this machine, had some hard-drive problems, and ended up having to call a scratchy-voiced lady in India working for MS so I could read off my authentication to her and she could read back my authorization for XP (I had it all sitting right in my hands! oh well...), and that felt like a half an hour wasted and scarred me for life.

Heh... I have one in my lab. fun times. Luckily we own the rights to the software so we can get a new license at anytime. But no one told me it was linked to the CPU, so it took me a long time to figure out why it wouldn't work on a new computer.

This is standard pratice in the high-end world.
