Switch to Intel for faster audio encoding?

Current build:

AMD 5200 X2
MSI K9N SLI Platinum AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX
2 sticks pqi 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400)
36gb Raptor OS disk
500gb WD Caviar for temp file storage during edits

Goldwave editor
Lame 3.94 encoder (dBpowerAMP frontend)

My encodes take forever. Plain and simple. About 3 minutes per hour of audio from full range .wav to 128k/44k stereo .mp3. Yes, only 3 minutes, but it's forever when I have to encode 5 hours twice a day. I know it can go faster (it can, right?), but I don't know if it's my current gear or software.

I'm thinking of this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W
ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX
CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
Western Digital Raptor 74GB OS disk

Any possible decreases in the time to encode by using this gear instead?

Just so we understand...
You view 1/2 hour per day as taking "forever"?

Your time must be VERY VALUABLE if you're planning on spending that much money to gain a few minutes a day.

You should really go for...
CPU - E8500
HDs - 640GB WD x 2 (RAID 0)

That new system will be 50% faster, but that's still 20 minutes a day instead of 30.

If your system is working reliably as-is it might be better to buy a $500 laptop so you can do something else while you encode.

I guess I will reserve myself to the fact that mp3 encoding is not fast. Ever.

Oh well. Thanks for all the input.
