Switch to DSL or keep cable?

I'm getting tired of Time Warners lack of customer service. The past few weeks i've been having problems with email as well... messages showing up 5-7 days late... etc...

So I have two choices... keep paying $45.99 for cable from Time Warner... or switch to SBC DSL for I think $30/month?

decisions... decisions...

A lot will depend on what you plan to use it for. If you're big into downloading, cable's downstream will likely treat you better. DSL is nice in as much as it is constant, provided the customer service is top notch.

Also, if the price difference is truly $15/month, think of the $180/yr you'll be saving.

The biggest pain in the butt there is the change in email address. Yet another reason to get your own domain and hosting. No more switching addresses.

If you can get 1.5mbps ADSL, then I say go with DSL.

If not stick with Cable.

SBC is not all that bad. I use it and it gets me 80k download speeds. I'm on a 768k plan. :D I pay 29.99 per month too.

In om SBC with their 1.5mbps/128kbps and get 145K/15K. It's okay...but I think I might switch to Time Warner cable, everyone around here (Houston) seems to get better speeds then DSL.

I had Verizon DSL and switched to Time Warner cable about a year ago. I'm glad I did - believe it or not, cable download speed is about 3x to 4x faster than DSL was. I've never had an outage with cable - DSL used to go out about every other month.

We just got SBC DSL installed here at my house. I'm not sure what the line rating is (I intend on finding out soon) but right now, dslreports is showing it's 106/120. I don't think they have a 128/128 plan so I intend on having this checked out. It's $30/month

i used to have cable modem when dsl wasn't available. when it was fast, it was blazing, but when it wasn't... sigh. plus, it went out pretty often (an hour or two every month at least, it seemed). at&t thought i couldn't have cable in my new apt, so i got dsl, which was actually really decent, except for one horrendous screwup that lasted a month. now i'm on a crappy 768/128 $50/mo service through verizon (though i just got a promo plan which will bump it up to 1.5dl and months for free + months discounted), but i haven't been on a cable modem recently long enough to see if it's gotten better. i've heard it has, but i think 1.5 down is fine.

Cable was way too expensive to keep here. For basic cable and 1024/128 cable service was now 70 bucks which is god damn insane... I not have verizon DSL and the dedicated speed is worth it alone over cable which would be very fast sometimes but if I needed to get a file sometimes it would be slow as crap to sites I know are fast... DSL everything is pretty fast but stable.

Impossible to answer since it depends on your area.

In my area DSL and Cable are both so SLOW!

The best I can do is cable with 448/128 service for $40 a month. :(

DSL is 384/128 for $45 a month.

same here, less problems with cable and its faster

also, if the DSL requires a contract, you don't need that with cable

I used to have cable and now have DSL... the speed on cable was SO much better... it seemed fast even when the bandwidth was supposedly saturated. On DSL right now I only have 1.2mbps, and downloading things at 100-110KB/s will slow sh1t down. Pathetic.. but it's cheaper, and there are NO download or upload limitations, which is why I switched.
