I have been having a lot of nasty storms around here and I am worried that I bought a PSU for bling value and I am considering replacing it with something much more reliable. The one I have is the MGE Magnum Fanless. I was considering either Seasonic or PC Power and Cooling. Any thoughts? Thanks.

PCP&C and Seasonic are both on the top of the field so you can't go wrong either way. Seasonic dose have large advantage in terms of sound, and is slightly more efficient however.

If you're worried about storms, you'd be better off getting a good surge protector or UPS. If you still want a new power supply, both Seasonic and PC P&C are good. In fact my dad bought a PC P&C Silencer 470W and it was just a modified Seasonic S-12, even had the SS logo inside it. BTW, I would pick the Seasonic over the PC P&C because it has a bigger fan (both are quiet) and is made with a better brand of capacitors.

I was thinking that maybe a fanless psu produced too much heat and maybe it was already degraded by a storm. Thanks for the tips.

The XG Magnum fanless is actually based on the SevenTeam fanless units. I can say without hesitation that SevenTeam is arguably one of the best PSU builders out there. Of all of the power supplies I've reviewed, the one I'm using is a SevenTeam fanless ST-500EAZ.

I can appreciate your ignorance, but I don't think assumnig that your particular power supply is going to die any quicker than another power supply because of storms. If your running your PC without protection, ANY power supply is at risk and the only one to blame is you.

I echo MWink's suggestion and believe that you need to take your hard earned money and not needlessly buy another power supply, but buy a line interactive (as opposed to standby) UPS with AVR.
