Switch to 64bit OS....HOW?

When I get Windows7 I want to install the 64bit version. What does switching from 32 to 64 bit OS require in the way of hardware/software issues? I built the current machine in December from current parts so I'm guessing the hardware is OK. Does all my software have to come in 64bit versions, or will all my 32bit software run OK? Thanks for any advice.

Yes, you'll have to do a clean install. 32 bit software will run the same, but the same software in 64 bit version (if it's available!) would be faster.

Your hardware in your Sig will run it great. There is nothing to worry about there. As other have said, you will have to do a fresh install.

Thanks all. I was aware of the clean install requirement, and have read that that will be required anyway when I get the Windows7 upgrade I pre-ordered. Glad to hear all my software will run. It appears to be a matter of drivers, and the only driver I might need will be for my Canon MX700, which I've found. Can't think of anything else.

And did ya format the drive in NTFS when you built it?
If not, I'd do it when you format the drive for the clean install.
