Switch from Nexus One to Palm Pre Plus?

How dumb of an idea is this? I love the Nexus One, but hate typing on it. No other gripes with the phone - its really the best phone I've ever had, and I've had at some point virtually every major smartphone in the past two years. iPhone 2G/3G, HTC Hero, BlackBerry Bold, Nokia e71, etc. Only OS I haven't used is webOS, and I've heard great things.

I'm considering the switch honestly because I'm bored and eligable for an upgrade. I can use that upgrade to get the Pre for $49 (through Amazon) and sell my Nexus One for $450+ on eBay, giving me funds to grab an iPad which I've wanted for sometime now.

How dead is the webOS operating system? Are developers still even developing for it anymore? That's my major concern. I'm also not looking forward to going from a 3.7" to 3.2" screen, but willing if webOS is really that good. I do a lot of texting, some e-mail, some phone usage, and the occasional web surfing.

I didn't jump on WebOS cus the future is still uncertain. I love the OS but no one still knows what's happening to it even with Dell as they still haven't announced any huge plans for it and no phones yet. I wouldn't jump on WebOS until we know the future of it.

Fixed for you. HP, not Dell.

There is TONS of development going on with WebOS. Developers love it as it's easy to program for, and even easier to convert iPhone apps over to.

A buddy of mine recently did exactly what you're thinking of doing (going Droid -> Pre Plus) and is very happy he did.

I've had a pre since close to launch, and I've an EVO 4G on pre-order... I saw someone messing with the EVO 4G in person, and I'm no longer "super excited" to get one... It just seems like the Pre was easier to navigate and/or use! It also seems that it appears to be the same speed as the Pre with the 800 MHz patch (the one I had before the ocean took it away from me...) :(

It would be jumping from one battery hogging signal-lacking POS to an entirely different species of POS.

He must be ectastic that his battery life drops to 50% after 4 hours of idle, his GPS doesn't work, and everything is slow as fucking hell frozen over, all the while having piss-poor audio quality.

You know I was, when I had it for about 2 days.

smart keyboard pro. i suck on the stock keyboard, but i can easily do 25-35 wpm on smart keyboard pro. the prediction and layout is much better and more customizable. its just a couple bucks, I'd try it before going for a new phone.

I had a Pre (non-Plus) for a week before switching to a Samsung Moment for the keyboard.

You might hate typing on a soft keyboard but I assure you the Pre's keyboard is no better. It is teeny-tiny, so small you have to use your thumbnails to type. Yes, it is a very nice looking and nice feeling phone. Very smooth and more compact than most smartphones. My Moment is really chunky by comparison. But I definitely wouldn't get one.

Actually, I'd look into Swype if you hate typing. Swype makes it easier. Google search for "swype WVGA" and you should be able to find it.

If you think the N1 is the best phone you've ever had, then there are probably some things you'd miss about Android no matter how much you may like WebOS. If you want a keyboard, I'd just wait for a high-end Android slider - I think several are on the horizon.

I'm only aware of two, the Motorola 'Droid 2' and the myTouch 3G Slider. Not sure if you could classify the myTouch Slider as high end though. There's also the LG Ally on Verizon, but also, not a high end device.

I sincerely hope there are more sliders coming though, a physical keyboard always trounces the virtual keyboard.

The Pre Plus keyboard is WAY better than the regular Pre keyboard. FYI.

I don't know what you were doing with your Pre, but mine lasts all day with moderate data use throughout the day, GPS has never had a problem, and everything is quick as can be (w/ overclock patch that is).

Pre Plus - GPS does not work. Period.

Pre Plus - Kill all programs. Restart phone. Run nothing. Turn off Phone screen. 4 hours later, 1/2 of your battery is gone.

No roots, hacks or mods.

Sounds like you have a bad phone there to me. Try swapping it for a replacement?

Ummm, right. You either got a bad phone, or you're just trolling.

Amazing that the GPS on my GF's Pre Plus has worked 100% of the time. As well as on my Sprint Pre.

Lots of people have tons of problems with the Pre. I had the Pre for a while and mine was fine but it's well known the hardware is buggy.

Nobody's arguing that. But his statement of "Pre Plus GPS doesn't work. Period." is obviously not true.

I'm always using the GPS on my Pre with no problems. I use the Smartrunner app when running or cycling and it accurately tracks my route.

A couple of months back I went from an iphone 3GS to a Sprint Pre (no hacks), and my wife went from a Nexus One to a Pixi (hated the screen keyboard). Not a single problem, (GPS works every time). We have our corporate emails, so the Pre/Pixi are always working, while the iphone lasted only 7 hours, and the Nexus One lasted 6, these go 10/11 hours. I hope HP allows Palm to create a successor because I would definitely buy.

My buddy has the Pre and the GPS never seemed to work in a car. The build quality was terrible IMO. The phone felt way to cheap.

The software was stellar though (save for the lack of decent apps).
