Swiss reject 6-week vacation plan; Zurich says yes to 'sex boxes'

The unions wanted 6 weeks minimum paid vacation a year. They are out of their mind and the people told them so. Good on them.

That's my kind of country.

The sex thing is just to attract more readers.

LOL

The funny thing is that the Swiss told the unions to get bent despite the fact they can easily afford these benefits to their people. Since the Swiss live on the fat underbelly of the third world, their economy can never go bankrupt.

You know this how? 4 weeks is more then fair.

I don't get the problem what's wrong with 6 weeks a year... 😕 sounds fine as a minimum

The UK minimum is 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year.

How the hell are they "out of their mind"?!

If that's just vacation, not counting holidays and sick time, then yeah they're smoking crack over there...if your job can do without you for several months a year you aren't really needed

Let's compare the employment & fiscal situations of the UK and Switzerland.

6 weeks is a month and a half, not several months.

We manage it in the UK just fine 6 weeks is a minimum. I can't believe how little you guys get.

It would put an unfair burden on their economy. 4 weeks paid vacation is generous in my opinion.

Each week of vacation is a 2% drop in work time per year. Some vacation is necessary to keep a mentally healthy workforce, but at 6 weeks, you're getting a net productivity loss.

There is no minimum American vacation time. The custom for white-collar jobs is 2 weeks paid vacation.

So I assume this 5.6 weeks is on top of real holidays you get off such as new years?

In most European countries can you accrue holidays, if you don't use them this year can you use them next year?

No, they can be included, it's up to your imployer

Complain all you want but there is a reason the USA is number one in GNP and we almost triple the number 2 country. All you fools can take your 6+ weeks of VAC and be happy not being as productive as the USA.

I don't know what most of the acronyms mean and I can't be bothered to do the research to decipher your post.

see this attitude is whats wrong with america

it should not take 5 years to get more than 2 weeks fo vacation/personal time

I sort of agree, but 6 weeks per year is excessive unless you want to bend up broke like Greece.

It baffles me that you guys get that little holiday. I couldn't live like that.

Its not everyone though. I HAVE to use 4 weeks of leave in the calendar year. If i dont use it it just disappears. I also have 40 hours of comp time this year so i basically will be taking 5 weeks off. I have 240 hours left after that. So i could end up taking off 11 weeks if i blew it all. But 5 weeks of just vacation time is plenty for me. Plus i get something like two and a half weeks of sick days. On top of the 9 weeks i already have saved up.

My mom has some ridiculous amount of leave saved and is at her companies max. Ends up being like 600 hours of sick leave and 6 weeks of annual leave saved. She gets like 3 or 4 weeks off a year that she has to take as well. But she has been at that job for 30+ years too.

Now my brother nad his wife do only get the like two weeks annual off and 2 weeks sick. But they have had no problems just saying for leave without pay to take more vacation time off. They work extra overtime so it doesnt effect them much.

Then 6 Weeks isn't too much. Here in the U.S I get 4.5 weeks of days of my choosing that I can accrue from year to year plus 2 weeks of fixed days off. The accrue is nice though, because I know someone who retired with over 30 weeks of vacation/holiday accrued and was able to cash it out. Basically paid for 30 weeks of work upfront on retirement. Here after 15 or so years though people start earning over 6 weeks a year of time off plus the 2 weeks of fixed holidays.
