Read over at Kotaku that Capcom won't be showing Dead Rising 2 at E3 over swine flu fears and now I just read over at Destructoid that the same is happening with some of the Square Enix (Kingdom Hearts) and Koei devs.

Geez. I wonder how many other games this will end up affecting.

The Japanese are afraid to come over to the US, where they could reveal a game about zombies?!

The irony is almost painful.

But seriously. Yeah that's taking it a bit far. I understand travel fears to countries with infections. But come on, the virus ain't bad yet, not for countries with decent medical care.
It won't get bad until the infection numbers swamp emergency rooms and occupy all the ventilators a country has. Then shit will hit the fan.
I say, travel everywhere, get the bug in your system now while our country has a damn good shot at dealing with it without real problems. Get immune, so if it comes back and hasn't mutated, you're safe when the zombie flu, ahem swine flu takes over the world.

They mention Kingdom Hearts - does that mean other Square-Enix people will be there? Maybe they'll announce that Final Fantasy XIII will be ready for Christmas (2011)?

That just seems silly. My company had travel suspended for a short time due to flu fears as well.... but at this point it has been well documented that swine flu is no worse than any other strain of the flu... it seems ridiculous now for that to be a reason not to show up.

E3 has kind of jumped the shark anyway though in my mind.. i really don't pay attention to it at all like I used to.

This is such BS.

Capcom could very easily send a digital copy to the PR folks here in NA and breif them on the details. Hell, they could FedEx the information if they're not interested in uploading the data.

It sounds like a cheap out. I would suspect that they're not happy w/ what they had to show.

Well, the logic for Dead Rising 2 only gets more convoluted with this bit:

While Dead Rising 2 will no longer be at the show, all of Capcom's other expected video games will be there, Kramer said. The decision to not show Dead Rising 2 was driven by the fact that Capcom's Keiji Inafune and other developers based in Japan will not be making the trip.

While Canadian-based Blue Castle is developing Dead Rising 2, Inafune is the executive producer and keeps a close eye on the game's development.

"Dead Rising 2 is the only game we won't be able to showcase at E3, because it's at an early stage of development and the team is not comfortable having anyone else demo the code," Kramer said.
