Seems like it could damage your hearing if water fills your ear canal between the speaker and your eardrum

yeah...a lot of weird issues with this....I'd be worried about having the music bounce around under water and annoy the hell out of the other swimmer's....

<---uses #10 POS 80's style POS over-ear cans:D.

MY main problem with in-ear is that they get all sweaty and fall out of my ears:(

they have in ear ones that hook over your ears too. sony makes a pair that can be had for $10.

Same thing happens to me. :( I need to find something I can run with that won't pop out once I'm warmed up and sweating profusely.

On topic, lots of longer distance triathletes use those cases for long swim workouts. It's fairly proven technology in my "circle".

I hear that underwater music can attract great whites.

I used to have a waterproof FM headset that I would listen to during swim practice when we had to do long sets of 500's. Worked pretty well once you got it situated.

Right but that's different because the lights are housed behind a solid glass barrier, whereas the speakers would have to be in direct contact with the water (I'd think)

If the terminations were done so they were waterproof (epoxied), what's the problem? The speaker itself makes sound by vibration...
